Hurricane Emily Strengthens to Category Two Storm
By VOA News
14 July 2005

Hurricane Emily is gaining strength as it continues to churn in the Caribbean Sea.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center has upgraded Emily to a Category Two hurricane, packing maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour.

In Grenada, the hurricane caused flooding and its winds blew off roofs of many buildings and damaged homes.

In Venezuela, Emily temporarily delayed some oil tankers from sailing as it churned offshore.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for Northern Venezuela as well as Bonaire and Aruba.

Emily is the fifth named storm of this year's Atlantic hurricane season, which began June 1 and ends November 30.

[Yesterday we had quite a lot of rain here in Trinidad & Tobago, but no serious damage has been reported thus far, and nobody was injured. Today the sun was out for a bit but it has been covered up again by some rather ominous looking clouds. Hopefully that's not a sign for impending rain...
And as I type, what do I hear but the pitter patter of the raindrops starting to beat on the roof! I better go look for 10 other available toes to keep me warm :P ]
