Missing You = (

Sometimes, when one person is missing, the whole world seems depopulated.

~ Lamartine

Has it ever happened to you that the moment somebody dear to you goes away, you miss him/ her like crazy and that feeling never ceases or dwindles the slightest bit? Why is it that "Absence makes the heart fonder"? I guess it may be the realisation that without the person, nothing is the same again.

I had come across some quotations that dealt with matters of the heart, and they are both intriguingly true and interesting to ponder. What is also noticeable upon reading them is the fact that they are easily applicable to life because they bring forth human emotions. There is some truth to the notion that Love is a universal language. Some people fear it, some embrace it, and others abuse it. Either way, I agree with Bertrand Russell that "To fear love is to fear life." After all, what kind of life would it be if we were to isolate ourselves from the world, and close our hearts to all emotions? There are various reasons why people would choose solitude and willingly shut themselves away from others. Sometimes though, you just have to take a chance because, in the words of Leo Buscaglia, "Happiness and Love are just a choice away."

Why would people want to choose Love though? Is it a natural instinct? Is it the revival of something that has always been with us in a latent state? I do think it is an interesting question, and I don't claim to be blessed with any deeply psychological or philosophical acumen, but there are various reasons why people would seek out Love. Theodor Reik had stated that "Love is an attempt to change a piece of a dream world into reality." I think for most people, that is an apt prognosis.

Balzac had written that "Love is the poetry of the senses." What else can make one go through such a range of emotions? It moves you to do noble deeds, and it can also move you to act irrationally.

I guess in the end, the way we perceive Love and the object of our affections is the catalyst for the way it may turn out in the long run. Sadly, a lot of people take it for granted. For me though, I live for the moment and hold on to what I have while I have it. Words of wisdom that I like to follow are: Live intensely and live freely, because one day you won't be here. And as for the people I hold dear to my heart, Gilbert K. Chesterton couldn't have given any better advice when he said that "The way to love anything is to realise that it might be lost."
